Do You REALLY Know What You Have? (I Bet You Don’t)
“They don’t know what they have” This is a dialogue of a Korean TV series called Revenant. A poor teenage girl who once was dreaming about becoming a painter and drawing beautiful moons said this. She got killed to become a ghost whom can kill the enemies of a rich family. This is what inspired me to write this article. In this article, I will count the things you take for granted but unfortunately, Iranian people can only dream about them.
1. Stable Money
A dollar is a dollar for you every year. You can buy the same things with a dollar. When I was 7 years old, I could buy a sandwich for 1000 Iranian tomans. Only 20 years have passed and the price of a sandwich is 120000 Iranian tomans. Prices have grown 120 times since then. When I was 15 years old, a home was 50 million tomans but now it is 3000 million tomans.
This means putting money in the bank means the money will have zero value in the near future. Iranian people should buy gold or land to keep their money safe. Banks are bankrupted here. They didn’t wire small profits like 2 million tomans this week so I had to go to the bank to fix it.
2. Equal Rights
In Iran, men want women to be in the home all day and women can’t work, travel, or even go outside of the home without their permission. Unmarried and some married women can work nowadays. but men are doing all sorts of things to make a bitter experience for women. For example, they say women should cook and clean at home and women are ruining the work environment.
Another example of unequal rights is the right to education. Although women can study until the highest grade. but there are some people and even some women who are against it. In some parts of the country especially in rural parts, women shouldn’t study. Last year in urban parts, girls in schools were attacked by chemical bombs. This tactic was used in Afghanistan girls’ schools to not let girls study.
3. Internet
In Iran, all social media like Telegram, Twitter, and Instagram are banned and people can access them with a VPN. If you think about good VPNs like ExpressVPN or NordVPN, you are wrong. What Iranians use as VPNs are Trojan apps that are extremely harmful to devices.
Iran’s Internet shuts down completely some days so people welcome the pre-internet era while AI is dominating in other countries. Speaking about AI, Iranian people can’t even use AI without a VPN and play online games like PUBG without a DNS.
4. Listening to Music and Watching Movies
Spotify, iTunes, Netflix, and other music and movie platforms are banned in Iran. Persian sites that upload songs and movies get banned frequently, making it hard to access them. Only Iranian men can hold concerts and they must stay like a tall tree without dancing while singing. This means no female singers, foreign singers, or Korean groups are allowed to perform in Iran.
Good to note that Iranian people think very negatively about Korean groups. They think all the Korean singers are gay and everyone who likes them is stupid.
5. Travel to Other Countries
I had a friend who liked working in different countries. He asked me to try it because he thought traveling to other countries from Iran was a piece of cake too. In reality, countries don’t allow Iranian people to enter easily like other country’s people. Even if they do, most Iranian people can’t afford it because of worthless money.
6. Going to Soccer Stadiums
Recently, women have been going to soccer stadiums but in few numbers. Soccer stadiums’ atmosphere in Iran is awful. Men curse players and judges with the worst words on the earth and make soccer an absolutely horrible hobby for educated people. I remember I was watching a European match and every man and woman in the stadium was sitting like they were watching a romance movie.
7. Dedicated Doctors
Iranian doctors only care about money, not the patient’s health. Someone on LinkdIn shared a story about her doctor. Her doctor canceled her visit to travel and have fun. I had terrible experiences with Iranian doctors too. I met an eye doctor and he said there were no eyeglasses for me where all other doctors could give a perfect eyeglasses.
Nowadays as Iranian money’s value gets worse, Iranian doctors are asking for gold coins from patients. They think they are the highest people and no one can say anything to them. Good to note that new people who enter medical universities are using tricks on the entrance exams and the situation will get even worse.
8. Kind People
In Iran, people are very cruel to each other. They speak behind each other and want failure and illness for people. Children kill each other for inheritance and put parents on welfare to die. Sisters insult each other for no reason and think they are the biggest threat to each other. Brothers never grow and all they do is annoy sisters and parents.
9. Wiring Money
Wiring money from other countries to Iran is impossible. PayPal and other similar sites aren’t working here and crypto wallets are the only way to wire money which gives me a headache. This means I can never receive any money for my writing services from foreign employers outside of Iran. Because they don’t have any interest in using cryptocurrencies.
Last words
Does living in Iran look awful for you? So thank god for what you think is granted for you. Think about North Korean people who are living in the worst country in the world. You will find out that the way you are living is a never-reachable dream for millions of people and a teenage girl who only wanted to draw moons with a black pencil.
